Can you attach the kickstart file you are using along with any of the log files in /tmp? Does your kickstart use the Fedora 18 repo or a custom repository? If it is a custom repository, does the repo include groups data?

FYI. I am installing Fedora from DVD which was supplied along with a magazine.

Comment 13 David Shea 2013-08-05 19:48:01 UTC
Does this DVD include an option to verify the media? There's a problem with the package repository included on the DVD. In packaging.log:

15:23:11,515 ERR packaging: failed to grab repo metadata for anaconda: failure: repodata/0274b7fbfe26a7af3ea81417d05b140fd45c93ea44f53d4f12c47e96cacc281d-primary.xml.gz from anaconda: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
file:///run/install/repo/repodata/0274b7fbfe26a7af3ea81417d05b140fd45c93ea44f53d4f12c47e96cacc281d-primary.xml.gz: [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum

indicates that the repository data is corrupt.

Closing this bug since it's an issue with custom media rather than with Fedora.

Thanks for noting that you got the DVD from a magazine. Have you done a media test? The media test is listed in the DVD boot menu:

Test this media & install Fedora

David: Why are you closing this bug before Viji has had a chance to report on the results of a media test?

Comment 15 Steve Tyler 2013-08-05 20:56:25 UTC
For the record, I have successfully completed a test install in a VM using your kickstart file served over NFS from the VM host.

The installed system reboots to the gdm login dialog with user viji.
There are no consoles (ctrl-alt-f2, etc.), however.

Tested with:
$ qemu-kvm -m 4096 -hda f18-test-3.img -cdrom ~/xfr/fedora/F18/Fedora-18-x86_64-DVD.iso -vga std -boot menu=on

Comment 16 Steve Tyler 2013-08-05 21:12:48 UTC
You can also check the DVD without booting it:

$ checkisomd5 --verbose /dev/sr0
/dev/sr0:   56b4bc6ea9eb7f61cb79ec87dd50990d
Fragment sums: 83e22ae12d1c8b6be8dbad2b7469ed12ffe423c3c16b182b8b619e59dc87
Fragment count: 20
Press [Esc] to abort check.
Checking: 100.0%

The media check is complete, the result is: PASS.

It is OK to use this media.

Comment 17 Steve Tyler 2013-08-05 21:23:47 UTC
Comment 16 was with the F19 DVD. This is with the F18 DVD ISO image file, but I believe the results should match those from the DVD image on physical media:

$ checkisomd5 --verbose Fedora-18-x86_64-DVD.iso
Fedora-18-x86_64-DVD.iso:   5e14f0918dc7f81d61bc0a96714c2e61
Fragment sums: 12c7b968a82ab126e22bd9e37ac93e21a2ef844c762bae44f56b19acbec7
Fragment count: 20
Press [Esc] to abort check.
Checking: 100.0%

The media check is complete, the result is: PASS.

It is OK to use this media.
