Description Jóhann B. Guðmundsson 2013-07-04 13:50:08 UTC
Description of problem:

I have absolutely no idea what the proper procedure to add device to kernel drivers anywho my team leader thought it was a great idea to throw two additional displays to my desk after me spending time yesterday fighting drm/i915 havoc with 3.9/3.10 kernels which required me to buy Hi-Speed USB DVI Converter to plug into my docking station so I ran down to the store bought [1] plug one additional monitor to it, ran yum -y install xorg-x11-drv-sisusb && modprobe sisusbvga then logged out of gnome and back in again no additional monitor detect.

Now the kernel detects the device when plugged

[ 41.430937] usb 1-1.5.2: USB disconnect, device number 7
[ 44.679015] usb 1-1.5.4: new high-speed USB device number 10 using ehci-pci
[ 44.764485] usb 1-1.5.4: New USB device found, idVendor=0711, idProduct=0950
[ 44.764494] usb 1-1.5.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0

which basically means if I get this right a simple missing one liner "{ USB_DEVICE(0x0711, 0x0950) }," based on the above output in the sisusbvga module. ( sisusbvga/sisusb.c )

Got of my lazy ass learned the proper procedures and created the patch my self and upstreamed it.

What better learning experience then a oneliner anyway :)
