Description Eric Devolder 1999-10-18 07:16:22 UTC
I use an exotic graphic card ( i740 clone ) on my PC, and
it seems to work pretty well under linux redhat 6.1;
however, during the install process, when I chose the first
option ( with graphic rendition ), my screen went to
640x480 resolution; well, this is not a problem for me, but
it is for the installer, which seems to work only with the
resolution at least at 800x600. It is very frustrating; so
a low resolution (640x480) installer should be present!

Remember the installer is the first thing viewed by linux
newbies, so if at first glance he/she see that, it can give
a very bad impression...

The installer runs at 640x480, so I am not sure what problem you are
seeing afterall. We picked the lowest common demoninator which is
640-480 at 16 colors. Please submit more details of the problems
which you are seeing and I will be glad to help you work through the
problems.

Well, the PC I use is a home-made, with ASUS motherboard, PII
processor, and i740 clone graphic card ( On-Speed ).

When running into gfx install, dialog boxes overlaps on the lower
right part of the screen; For example, some buttons on the left are
partials; list boxes are also partials. Virtual screening is not
active, so I cannot access to some of the parts of the screen.

As now, it is possible that the installer works at 640x480 and my
screen going at a lower resolution, but this is confusing; my video
card has 3D engine, 8MB of memory, so this kind of problem should not
occur.

Can you give me a trick to send you screenshots ? (it should be
possible, though ?!? )

Sounds like there is a timing problem with your video card. I would
recommend running the installer in TUI, as we are just taking the
timings that the video card supplies to the installer.
