Description John Gorman 2010-05-12 14:55:11 UTC
Description of problem:

/etc/hosts is misconfigured for localhost.

localhost is configured for both an IPV4 address and an IPV6 address.

This breaks networking for libmemcached-0.40 when running
"memcached -l 127.0.0.1" and "memdump --servers localhost".

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

$ cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 6.0 Beta (Santiago)

How reproducible:

Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install RHEL6 Beta
2. cat /etc/hosts

Actual results:

# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1   localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
::1         localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6

Expected results:

# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1   localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
::1         localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6

Comment 3 Ondrej Vasik 2010-05-12 17:50:20 UTC
It is not misconfigured - see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=486461 why it was done that way. Option "multi on" is in /etc/host.conf and programs should be able to recognize IPv4/IPv6 correctly. You should report those issues against libmemcached - as this is the application which could and should handle it.
