Description Johann Amin 2008-07-10 06:29:23 UTC
Description of problem:
I just did an update of all available packages. Rebooting my computer after the
updated shows me a "desktop-in-desktop" effect. This seems like a relapse of bug
427332 that I filed back in January. Checking in /var/log/messages shows the
xorg packages below being updated.

yum(yumex): Updated: xorg-x11-drv-evdev.i386 2.0.1-1.fc9
yum(yumex): Updated: xorg-x11-drv-glint.i386 1.2.1-1.fc9
yum(yumex): Updated: xorg-x11-drv-i810.i386 2.3.2-2.fc9
yum(yumex): Updated: xorg-x11-drv-mga.i386 1.4.9-1.fc9
yum(yumex): Updated: xorg-x11-drv-nv.i386 2.1.10-1.fc9
yum(yumex): Updated: xorg-x11-drv-vesa.i386 2.0.0-1.fc9
yum(yumex): Updated: xorg-x11-server-common.i386
yum(yumex): Updated: xorg-x11-server-Xorg.i386
yum(yumex): Updated: xorg-x11-utils.i386 7.4-1.fc9

Since I'm using a Radeon card, the only components that would cause me any
problems would be xorg-x11-server-Xorg or xorg-x11-server-common. Everything was
fine before the update.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. The moment you get into X you can see the problem.

Actual results:
1024x768 maximum resolution selectable. Manual editing of xorg.conf file results
in a "desktop-in-desktop" effect where a 1024x768 "desktop" exists inside a
1440x900 desktop.

Expected results:
system-config-display should give me the option of selecting 1440x900. Desktop
should display at 1440x900 without the additional "virtual desktop" in it.

Additional info:
All the while I have been using the fix given back in bug 427332 of using Option
"PanelSize" "1440x900" in my xorg.conf file. Without this option X would only be
able to display in 800x600 max.

Still, could you please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf)
and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual
uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below?

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

duplicate or related to bug 436243?

Comment 16 Bug Zapper 2009-06-10 02:01:04 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 9 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 9. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '9'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 9's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 9 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

Comment 17 Bug Zapper 2009-07-14 17:32:19 UTC
Fedora 9 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2009-07-10. Fedora 9 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
