Description Stephan Peccini 2008-06-12 03:50:24 UTC
Hi,

My scanner is a Nikon Coolscan LS-9000 plugged on FireWire (IEEE 1394): VIA
Technologies, Inc. IEEE 1394 Host Controller (rev c0).

With the previous kernel when switching on the scanner:

Linux kulta.domicile 2.6.25.3-18.fc9.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue May 13 04:54:47 EDT
2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

kulta kernel: firewire_core: phy config: card 0, new root=ffc1, gap_count=5
kulta kernel: scsi7 : SBP-2 IEEE-1394
kulta kernel: firewire_core: created device fw1: GUID 0090b54003ffffff, S400,

kulta kernel: scsi 7:0:0:0: Scanner Nikon LS-9000 ED 1.01
PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
kulta kernel: scsi 7:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg9 type 6

With the last kernel when switching on the scanner:
kernel-2.6.25.4-30.fc9.x86_64

kulta kernel: firewire_sbp2: fw1.0: error status: 0:4
kulta kernel: firewire_sbp2: fw1.0: error status: 0:4
kulta kernel: firewire_sbp2: fw1.0: error status: 0:4
kulta kernel: firewire_sbp2: fw1.0: error status: 0:4
kulta kernel: firewire_sbp2: fw1.0: error status: 0:4
kulta kernel: firewire_sbp2: fw1.0: failed to login to LUN 0000

My scanner was working fine with the previous kernel. I updated my system with
the last kernel and I have the last set of messages and, of course, my scanner
is not working. If I reboot on the previous kernel, I get the first set of
messages and the scanner is working fine.

Thanks in advance for any support

This is an odd one. I don't think there's been a single change to the firewire
stack between 2.6.25.3-18.fc9 and 2.6.25.4-30.fc9. Are results any better with
the just-released kernel-2.6.25.6-55.fc9 kernel?

Comment 2 Stephan Peccini 2008-06-13 18:27:05 UTC
All is working fine with this last kernel 2.6.25.6-55.fc9. Problem still exists
with kernel 2.6.25.4-30.fc9. I don't know if it is important, but for me all is
OK now.

I don't know what is the status for this issue resolution and who has to close
if this has to be done.

Thanks

Comment 3 Jarod Wilson 2008-06-13 19:39:50 UTC
Hrm, so something not directly related to firewire must be at play, as there are
no firewire changes between -30 and -55 either... Ah well. If the problem crops
up again, please do reopen the bug, but for now, I'll just close it...
