Description Stephan Bergmann 2019-03-25 09:07:45 UTC
After a dnf update and reboot of an F29 machine this morning, gnome-shell on Wayland started to become unresponsive. It often consumes 100-1000% cpu, and the mouse pointer lags behind substantially. This appears to happen more when the mouse is hovering over any controls (e.g., with just a gnome terminal window open, cpu load is low and mouse pointer smooth most of the time except when moving over the min/max/close buttons in the titlebar; effect is much worse when having a thunderbird window open). The problem is not present when logging into GNOME on X11.

The only enabled extension was the background logo, and disabling extensions completely in tweak tool doesn't make a difference.

Running gnome-shell-3.30.2-1.fc29.x86_64, which wasn't updated as part of that `dnf update`. The last `dnf update` had been ca. a week before, the list of updated packages is as attached.

gdb backtraces of gnome-shell around some point in time where it "acted up" is as attached.

FWIW, the backtrace file doesn't show anything interesting; all threads are idling. The dnf history looks "boring" too; the only thing I can see that is remotely related is gstreamer stuff.
