Description Jonas Thiem 2019-03-01 18:57:49 UTC
Description of problem:

Fedora has no proper screencast recording solution. All software listed on https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ScreenCasting is either useless for non-trivial cases (e.g. gnome-shell's integrated recorder, since it has no audio support) or doesn't work (byzant, doesn't support wayland I would asusme?) or isn't actually contained in Fedora (green-recorder, which by the way also seemed to be very buggy for me with constantly non-responsive UI, audio just stopping to record in the middle and more).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
29

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Read https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ScreenCasting and try any of the solutions to record your screen with audio at an arbitrary duration

Actual results:
can't make it work, can't find a program on that wiki page that works

Expected results:
Documentation like the page https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ScreenCasting lists properly included programs that are helpful for this purpose, and fedora actually packages such a program

Also for me screencasting does not work well. I can start the screencast by Ctrl-Alt-Shift-R, and stop it with the same key combination. But often the recorded files are empty, and when they contain content, it is garbled. I use Wayland, dual display, fractional scaling on the HiDPI display.
