Description George R. Goffe 2018-07-08 14:30:45 UTC
Description of problem:
After powering on an external 4tb sata seagate drive, subsequent mount fails with msg "kernel: EXT4-fs (sdb1): bad geometry: block count 976754385 exceeds size of device (488378390 blocks)". Subsequent fdisk /dev/sdb then a "q" command seems to resolve the problem temporarily. No messages from fdisk.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
see above

Steps to Reproduce:
1.see above

Actual results:
Mount always fails until fdisk is invoked.

Expected results:
successful mount

Additional info:
This problem has been around for several months. I kept hoping the problem would be fixed by newer kernels but such is NOT the case.
