Description Kirk C Aune 2005-05-05 16:19:32 UTC
Description of problem:
Prior to upgrades a few days ago, I had no problems. I have not reverted back
on OS number, but I have reverted back to gdm-2.6.0.8-1 and have restored normal
login function WITH my own linux-2.6.11.8 kernel. When I try
kernel-2.6.11.1-1286_FC4, I get an error about not being able to execute
/etc/X11/xdm/Xsession Default. However, I am able to secure a virtual terminal
access for root login selecting alt F1.

If I use the latest gdm-2.6.0.8-12 and the latest test kernel 1286, I am unable
to login in through gdm OR virtual terminal access. In the latter case, the
message flashes too fast to follow. If I boot the linux-2.6.11.8 kernel, I am
unable to do a gdm login, but can login with a virtual terminal session. The
latter problem could be related to Selinux which is not enabled under my
2.6.11.8 kernel.

Confusing and not sure that any bugzilla report really addressed this.
/var/log/messages report what appears to look like an argument parsing error:
May 5 09:53:22 mozart gdm[2371]: GDM restarting ...
May 5 09:53:27 mozart gdmgreeter[27291]: args for opcode '#' are ''

Hi,
Those syslog messages are harmless. There was a problem with the rpm package
not setting up selinux filecontexts that caused this behavior. It's been fixed
in the latest rawhide. You can work around the problem by booting with
selinux=0 in your kernel cmdline.

Thanks for the report.
