Description ricky.tigg 2017-11-24 12:54:36 UTC
Description of problem:
Set system language does not apply itself after logging out of session and logging back in.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible – Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install updates: $ sudo dnf update -y
2. Change system language to English (Great Britain).
3. Log out of current session.

Actual results:
Language is still the one set at the time of the System's installation process (Finnish).

Expected results:
By default after that, the system language in service should have automatically updated, meaning that after a Log out of current session, the newly set system language should automatically be activated.

Additional info:
Fedora-MATE_Compiz-Live-x86_64-27-1.6.iso file from Fedora's website, installed as virtual machine on Virtual Machine Manager 1.4.3 with Finnish set as system language.

How do set the language?

Comment 2 Björn 'besser82' Esser 2017-11-24 13:23:07 UTC
Are you talking about the system default language or the custom user-defined session locale?

Comment 3 ricky.tigg 2017-11-24 14:10:09 UTC
On default top panel: Järjestelmä -> Yläpito -> Kieli.
Opening window Kielen valinta. Choose language an Validate; systemt notifies "Kielituki on jo asennettu. Asetetaan oletuskieli." can be translated as "Language support is already installed. Default language will be set."

Comment 4 Wolfgang Ulbrich 2017-11-24 14:18:04 UTC
Finish isn't my language :P
I think you're speaking about system-config-language.
This tool sets only the system language, the language you see at console in runlevel 3 (without X)

The language for the session you need to choose in lightdm login manager.
A context-menu at top panel of lightdm.
For some reasons you need to logout/login 2 times to see the new language in session.
But that's an old issue of lightdm, not related to mate-session-manager.

You meant attachment 1358679 [details]. Thank you for that "fix"; It is made to work just as you described it. If it is an old issue of lightdm, with time it probably reached now the status of friend inside the developers' community. .
