Description Kasper Dupont 2003-03-02 17:26:53 UTC
Description of problem:
If the title of a minimized window changes while tty2 is active, gnome will
crash. The X server restarts and the login window appears again.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-14

How reproducible:
Easy to reproduce.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log in using gdm and choose gnome
2. Start mozilla
3. Start downloading a large file
4. Iconify the download window
5. Switch to another VC by pressing CTRL+ALT+F2
6. Wait a few seconds
Instead of using mozilla the bug can also be reproduced using xterm
and any command that will change the window title. Type "sleep 20 ;"
followed by the command.

Actual results:
gnome crash. Messages in /var/log/messages:
Mar 2 18:07:56 marvin gnome-name-server[29349]: input condition is: 0x11, exiting
Mar 2 18:07:56 marvin gdm(pam_unix)[28540]: session closed for user test
Mar 2 18:07:56 marvin gdm[28540]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error -
Restarting :0

Expected results:
The VC activated by CTRL+ALT+F2 can be used, and gnome will still
be available when I switch back with CTRL+ALT+F7.

Additional info:
The exact gnome component responsible for the crash is unknown. The
problem is not there if I log in using failsafe and start twm as my
windowmanager.

Should be fixed with new GNOME 2 in 8.0
