Description Charles A. Landemaine 2007-03-16 14:09:56 UTC
I was installing off the network from a server on my local network, and while
fetching the OpenOffice.org RPM, the installer froze. After an hour or so, I
decided to shut down the computer. I have 256MB RAM and a Pentium III 650Mhz
laptop.

Is any information displayed on tty1, tty3, or tty4 that indicates an error?

Comment 2 Charles A. Landemaine 2007-03-19 14:38:29 UTC
Unfortunately I can't tell because the keyboard is unresponsive.

Comment 3 Joachim Frieben 2007-03-24 16:26:39 UTC
The same here on an "IBM ThinkPad T23". The system freezes when transferring
the install image to the disk. This happened twice consecutively.
Moreover, this also happened with the original "FC6" install media in the
past, and for subsequent "rawhide" installs [no problems with older releases
and "rawhide" installs as of 2007]. Sometimes the system froze
during install, sometimes when installing a fair number of packages after
booting into the new system leading to "rpmdb" corruption reported in
bug 181363. I am at 99% convinced that this issue is due to the "ext3" file
corruption bug in the "LINUX" kernel which got fixed late last year.
I also conjecture that this has not been fixed for "RHEL5" final - a really
bad failure which simply prevents the system from being installed!
Setting severity to "high" or "urgent" appears mandatory.

Any chance this can be reproduced with the latest rhel5 beta tree (isos
available on rhn) and with a serial console hooked up so we can maybe see what
went wrong?

BZ has been in NEEDINFO since August 2007 -- closing.
