Description Nikhil Kathole 2017-11-20 08:26:10 UTC
Description of problem: We were trying to register a content host to the organization which is renamed. But when command to register host entered,

# subscription-manager register --org="apple_renamed" --activationkey="test"

it showed

Couldn't find Organization 'apple_renamed'.

It still looks for old organization name.

Content host registered successfully when

# subscription-manager register --org="apple" --activationkey="test".

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Satellite 6.3 snap 25

How reproducible: always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create an organization (say "apple")
2. Create activation key promoting and publishing product repositories
3. Rename the organization (say "apple_renamed")
3. Go to command line of content host to register
4. rpm -Uvh http://satellite/pub/katello-ca-consumer-latest.noarch.rpm
5. subscription-manager register --org="apple_renamed" --activationkey="<Activation Key Name>"

Actual results:
The output of command showed
Couldn't find Organization 'apple_renamed'

Expected results: Registering content host command with renamed organization should work and Hosts -> Content host -> Register also should show renamed org to register host.

Additional info: The observations are:

1. Host registered successfully with old organization name.(i.e. After renaming, it still look for old org name)
2. Host after registration assigned to renamed organization.
3. Hosts -> Content host -> Register showed old org name to register new host.

When registering a system, the value provided for --org is the organization 'label' and not the name. The label is set during the creation of the org and cannot be changed after creation. For this reason, registration with 'apple_renamed' fails and 'apple' succeeds.

Based on this, closing this as notabug. We do have a similar bugzilla from the past related to the same general behavior. For reference, that is bug 1162058.
