Description Brandon Williams 2014-02-14 18:53:15 UTC
Description of problem:
Statement MRG Release Notes regarding kABI compatibility between versions is confusing.

https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_MRG/2/html-single/MRG_Release_Notes/index.html

"The MRG Realtime kernel may be rebased over the lifetime of a Red Hat Enterprise MRG release, however there are no guarantees of a stable kernel Application Binary Interface (kABI) over the life of Red Hat Enterprise MRG."

If this means upgrading from one MRG kernel to another might break kABI compatibility, perhaps it should be reworded to more clearly state this. e.g:

The MRG Realtime kernel may be rebased over the lifetime of a Red Hat Enterprise MRG release. Due to the need for rebasing, there are no guarantees of a stable kernel Application Binary Interface (kABI) over the life of Red Hat Enterprise MRG.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
N/A

How reproducible:
N/A

Steps to Reproduce:
1. https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_MRG/2/html-single/MRG_Release_Notes/index.html
2.
3.

Actual results:
Documentation doesn't make it clear whether there or not kABI compatibility is guaranteed between minor versions or just between major versions of MRG.

Expected results:
Better clarity pointing out that the rebasing can happen at any time and kABI is not guaranteed.
